Values, education and capitalism
Keywords:
Education, capitalism, training, ethicsAbstract
The dominant paradigm in the new century is capitalism, which has impacted all areas of society, especially in education. Thus, the quality of the education system is committed to meet the requirements of the labor market that demands competent professionals but neglects the ethical and social commitment of the professional; as Schmelkes (2002) points out, it is necessary to consider that in order to train highly competent and productive men and women able to get the most out of the scientific and technological advances, the education system must truly "train" in every sense of the word, i.e., to train competent human beings in both their field of work and their personal life, this requires an education system committed to the pursuit of justice, ethics and morals.
