This work is a needs analysis that pretends to determine the type, degree and extension of the problems the students at the Autonomous University of Yucatan face, in order to identify their orientation needs. In addition to providing vocational information, activity for which they are more known, the vocational counselors must facilitate the solution of problems that jeopardize the permanence of students and their progress in school.
This paper reports the results of a field study in which by means of a survey to a sample of 1,675 students of the first semesters of college and high school, eight dimensions commonly reported as problematic in adolescence: school, family, couples, peers, nutrition, addictions, sexual and emotional aspects, are explored.
It was reported a high incidence of problems associated to school -logically expected in this population- as well as emotional, alimentary and family problems, which are more frequent in women, and problems related to addictions, couples, and sex, which are more frequent in men.
